FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE APRIL 10, 2007 WIDOWS WITH WISDOM GO ON FIRST OUTING TOGETHEROh! What a glorious time we had on March 24th . In celebration of National Women’s History Month, 11 widows, and some of their daughters, enjoyed their very first outing together. It was an occasion to remember. The Tea called, “Celebrating Woman to Woman,” was a “spa for the soul.” And, indeed, our souls were blessed. Not only because of the delectable food, but also because of the fun and fellowship. The Tea was hosted by the First Lady of Detroit, Carlita Kilpatrick. I was blessed from the time I walked in the door, right up until the time I left. God did something so very special for me as I was leaving. Here’s what happened… I love flowers and miss the ones that my late dear husband, Rev. Eddie K. Edwards, always gave me. On the Friday before I gathered with the ladies for our outing, I went to the market to purchase food. I saw these lovely spring flowers as I walked in the door (seems like that’s always were they place the flowers). I quickly picked them up and placed them in my basket. However, when I got to the counter and prepared to pay my grocery bill, I realized that I didn’t have enough money. I needed the food more than the flowers, so I sadly gave them to the cashier to return to their spot at the door. As I walked out of the store, I whispered to the Lord: “Father, I want someone to give me some flowers.” I thought no more about it until my experience at the Museum the next day. There were beautiful floral arrangements at each table where we were sitting. I thought to myself, “I wonder if they are going to let us take those flowers home when the event is over.” At the close of the special occasion, I got busy talking to some of the ladies and, lo and behold, when I looked around – ALL THE FLOWERS WERE GONE! “Oh, no,” I said to no one in particular. “I didn’t get any flowers!” Suddenly, I heard someone say, “Here, take mine.” At first I started to refuse, and then I remembered how I had asked the Lord to put it on someone’s heart to give me some flowers. So I gracious accepted the flowers as coming from the Lord. As I walked to my car, which was about a block away, I expressed me gratitude again and again to the Lord. Then I saw her. The lady who gave me the flowers was walking towards me to get in her car, which was right in front of me. It was nearly an unbelievable sight. SHE WAS CARRYING A BOUQUET OF FLOWERS! “My God! Where did you get those flowers?” I asked. She said with a big smile, “My sister didn’t know that I had given you my flowers. But she got two bouquets – one for herself, AND ONE FOR ME!” I thought about the scripture that says, “Give and it shall be given unto you…” My God is an awesome God! Those who attended the event were:
We will be attending another Tea on April 28th at the Historical Woman’s Association of Clubs here in Detroit. We can barely wait to get back together again! Minister Mary Edwards, |
