FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Dec 1, 2007

Merry Christmas

THIRD ANNUAL CHRISTMAS DINNER!

When: Saturday, December 15, 2007 1:00 to 4:00 p.m.

Where: The McDonnell Community Center 24400 Civic Center Drive (near Telegraph Rd.) Southfield, Michigan

Sponsor: Detroit Sedation Dentistry Avis M. Broussard DDBS

Super! Superb! Supernatural! These three words wonderfully describe the Third Annual Christmas Party hosted by Widows With Wisdom on Saturday, December 15, 2007.

The food was super. The guests and keynote speaker were superb. And the atmosphere was supernatural, as 37 women from across the Metropolitan Detroit area - and beyond - entered the community room of the McDonnell Towers on Civic Center Drive in Southfield. At least three of the widows have lost their husbands within the past three months. Several others also became widows just this year. Many have been widows for over 15 years. In spite of the major adjustments these women have had to make, there was obvious joy on the journey. You could see and hear that their faith was holding them together.

Mrs. Marva Dozier, a WWW board member since its inception in 2004, brought several widows from New Testament Church of God in Christ. Mrs. Debra Davis, also from New Testament Church, came and shared details of the outreach ministry to widows at their church. It is so good to hear that there are some churches in the city who adhere to the exhortation in James 1:27 which says that we are to care for the widows and the orphans.

Dr. Angela Redmond, the widow of  Rev. Dr. Robert Redmond, Sr, previous pastor of Mt. Pleasant M.B.C., shared how God is teaching her how to embrace life in spite of her widowhood.

Evangelist Dorothy Lakey, the keynote speaker, spoke from Isa. 54:5 which says that our maker is our husband. Evangelist Lakey is married, however, she emphasized that all of us (female and male) are the Bride of Christ. The message was very well received.

The gathering was sponsored by Dr. Avis Broussard of Dr. Broussard’s Perfect Smile Dental in Southfield. Dr. Broussard took time out of her busy practice to come and wish us all a very merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. One widow commented, “She’s a walking billboard!”

The widow was right. Dr. Broussard is tall in statue and a big, wide smile covers her lovely face from cheek to cheek.

Minister Mary Edwards, founder of WWW, which is an outreach of His Lovely Wife Ministries, concluded the Joy on the Journey Christmas Dinner with exciting plans for the future of the ministry. Part of the vision is a plan for how the widows can become more self-sufficient. They will discover gifts and talents that have been dormant within them until now.

There was a supernatural aura surrounding her as she shared some details and divine strategy with these young, middle aged, and older widows. There were several in the group who were either physically or mentally challenged: blind, deaf, wheelchair bound, or bipolar. Nevertheless, they were all encouraged and looking forward to a “New Start in Life in 2008.”
