On May 11, 2008 a
traditional holiday, “Mother’s Day,” will be celebrated throughout the country.
But I’m wondering will it be a “Happy Mother’s Day” for all families.
Will it be a “Happy Mother’s Day” for the mother
who was widowed when she lost her husband as a result of illness, accident, or
the victim of war or another horrible tragedy?
Will it be a “Happy Mother’s Day” for the child
who became fatherless when his or her mother became a widow?
When a husband dies the family situation suffers
greatly. Overwhelmed with grief, financial challenges and, in some cases,
hopelessness, many widows have felt like throwing in the towel, facecloth, AND
the soap. However, there are others who manage to pick up the pieces and start
over again.
With this thought in mind, Mary Edwards
Ministries wants to honor three of these widows for Mother’s Day 2008. Here’s
how you can help.
We are requesting that you nominate the
candidate(s) of your choice in an essay using 500 words or less. Tell Minister
Edwards how this widowed mother turned her stumbling blocks into stepping
stones, rose to the occasion and began a successful “New Start in Life.” Because
of her wisdom and courage, her children will rise up and call her blessed.

Deadline for entries will be April 30, 2008.
Three women will be honored on May 10, 2008 from 1:00-4:00 p.m., at the monthly
Widows With Wisdom support group meeting held at the McDonnell Community Center,
24400 Civic Center Drive, Southfield, MI 48076. (Normally these meetings are
held on the 3rd Saturday of each month.)
