The Spirit of Discernment

When we walk wisely, seeking God’s will and guidance, we are divinely protected. We must surround ourselves with people we can trust. We must be able to discern their hearts. Only God can reveal a person’s heart to us.

Discernment

God’s wisdom gives us discernment. It recognizes the truth from a lie, fact from fiction, right from wrong. This is called discernment, which comes from the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit dwells within us. It’s a sense beyond the five natural senses. The person who walks in godly wisdom does not make decisions based on how things look. We walk by faith not by sight. We trust the Lord with all of our heart and lean not to our own understanding. In all of our ways we acknowledge Him and He will direct our path. He will give us the discernment we need to make wise decisions.

Where man’s understanding ends, God’s wisdom begins.

I have found, as a fairly new widow, that people have different motives for wanting to be in our lives. But this same thing holds true whether you are married, single or divorced. Sometimes people come looking for fishes and loaves. Some are sent by our adversary, satan, to led us into evil. Often times, out of loneliness, widows/women will be led into ungodly relationships, even by people they consider to be a friend. Any person who entices you to sin is not a friend and should be shunned like the plague.

Don’t spend time with these wolves in sheep clothing. Don’t listen to their advice. Don’t laugh at their jokes. Don’t enter into romantic conversations and emotional relationships with them. These can lead somewhere you shouldn’t be.

Remember, the devil comes to steal, kill and destroy. But Jesus came that we might have abundant life. If the people you are hanging with are not adding to your life, they are subtracting from it, and even multiplying your problems. Prayer: “Father, I pray for the spirit of discernment to be released upon women everywhere. Give us an ear to hear what the Spirit of the Lord is saying. Then, Lord, give us the heart to obey. Amen.”
