Temperatures Are Rising  (by Minister Mary Edwards)
(C)2008

Ephesians 4:26 "In your anger do not sin" : Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry, (NIV)

Ephesians 4:26 Be ye angry, and sin not: let not the sun go down upon your wrath: (KJV)

Proverbs 15:1 A soft answer turneth away wrath: but grievous words stir up anger. (KJV)

"Baby, it's cold outside," my friend said to me as she rushed into my home, bundled up like an Alaskan eskimo.

My quick response was, "It might be cold outside, but temperatures are rising inside - inside the hearts of men."

Indeed, tempers are flaring. I see evidence of this everywhere I go. The spirit of anger and impatience is setting folks off in the post office lines, supermarkets, department stores, utility companies, government offices, bowling alleys, yea, even in our homes and churches. Truly, these are perilous times. There's trouble on every hand.

At the same time, however, the love of many has waxed cold. There was a time that I would smile pleasantly at everyone I passed by on the street and they would smile back. But recently I did that and someone glared at me and said, What are YOU smiling for?" My. My. Do I keep my smile to myself. No! A picture is worth a thousand words. I could respond in retaliation with a harsh word. But the smile will accomplish much more. Perhaps later in the day this gloomy person will recall my smile and feel better.

While some folks are over heated and others are ice cold, God wants us to have temperance. The only way this can happen is to allow the Holy Spirit to be our Pilot Light.

So, what's your temperature? If you see someone without a smile, give them one of yours.
