 Widows With Wisdom “Queen for a Day Contest”
Winner Minnie Che'ney
On Saturday, April 15th, Mrs. Minnie Che’ney was crowned
“Queen for a Day” at the monthly Widows With Wisdom support group meeting.
Minnie was honored because of her all out support to WWW. In accepting the honor
she said, “I came to this group not so much for myself, but to see what I could
do to help encourage other widows.” And, indeed she has.
The only time Minnie has come to our meetings empty handed was
on the day she was honored. Even then, she asked beforehand, “What can I bring
to the meeting.” My reply, “Just your big heart, Minnie. Just your big heart.”
Minnie is an organic gardener. All of us have been treated to
her healthy and delicious foods from her garden. Included among her delectables
have been her spinach quiche and Sweet Potato Smoothies.
Sis. Che’ney was born in Olmstead, Illinois. She attends Grace
Community Church on the west side of Detroit. Her pastor is William Harris.
Fourteen years ago Minnie retired from the IRS Treasury Department. She has
given many of us helpful suggestions on how to save our money.
Our honoree has served in many volunteer capacities. But her
favorite is an African charity in Malawi, Mirion Medical Mission, where she
helps build wells for the thirsty people there.
It was a very special day for Sis. Che’ney. On hand to
celebrate were many family members and friends. And she looked royal in her
purple outfit.

We are pleased to announce the Widows With Wisdom, “Queen for
a Day” Contest. The winner will receive an all expense paid, one-week trip to
Kissimmee, (Orlando) Florida May 14-21, 2006. You will stay at the beautiful, Gold Crown,
Orange Lake Country Club. www.orangelake.com. OLCC is just six miles from Disney
World.
There is an entry fee of $25.00. The contest is based on a
point system. This is how you will earn points:
1. Enter contest (25)
2. Attend monthly meeting (5)
3. Bring a new widow to the group (5)
4. Purchase Mother's Legacy Collection of 4 CD’s (25)
5. Recruit a radio sponsor for one week @ $135.00 (100)
6. Acquire a media interview (radio,t.v.,newspaper) (100)
7. Write a letter for the WWW website telling how the support group has helped
you on your journey (10)
8. Introduce someone to the radio broadcast. Have them call our office (248)
663-2363 and tell us what the program was about. Be sure to have them mention
your name (10)
The contest winner will lodge with the Widows With Wisdom
board of directors in a three-bedroom (1700 sq. ft.) condo. The condo sleeps 12.
WWW will not be able to accommodate any other family members or friends. It is
not necessary for you to stay the entire week. However, if you come in late or
leave early, you will need to pay for your own transportation from and to the
airport.
